A.O.P.

Since 1992, the term Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) – in French Appellation d’Origine Protégée (AOP) – has been used at European level for designations of origin that are recognized at the national level: A.O.C. for France, D.O. (Denominazione di Origine) for Italy, G.U. (Geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung) for Germany, etc.

Thirteen European Union countries currently have a PDO or PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) system: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.
